Validation and Reliability of the Korean Version of The Menu Task (The Menu Task-K) for Assessing Functional Cognition

Abstract

Objective : This study aimed to develop a Korean version of The Menu Task (The Menu Task-K) and verify its validity and reliability.Methods : The Menu Task-K was developed using translation and back-translation, comprehension tests, and a Delphi expert survey. Convergent validity was analyzed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment-Korea (MoCA-K) and Korea Trail Making Test for the Elderly (K-TMT-E) part A, B. Reliability was assessed by measuring internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and interrater reliability, and the cutoff score was estimated.Results : Content validity results showed that all items had an item-level content validity index of 0.90 or higher. The Menu Task-K and MoCA-K had a significant positive correlation (r = 0.327, p < 0.01) and a significant negative correlation with the K-TMT-E (A, B) (r = -0.274, r = -0.218, p < 0.01). A total score of less than eight points indicated a functional cognition deficit. The internal consistency was relatively low (Cronbach’s a = 0.352) and the test-retest reliability (r = 0.940, intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] = 0.963) and inter-rater reliability (r = 0.953, ICC = 0.972) were high.Conclusion : The Menu Task-K is a reliable and valid tool for screening functional cognition in elderly Koreans.
